A beautiful friendship

A beautiful friendship

Chapter 1.
The four friends
There live four little children in a small town next to London in England. They are best friends. All are primary school students. Do you want to meet them?
Merry and Ann are a sibling. They look the same because they’re twins! They are nice small girls with long fair hair, but Merry’s hair is straight and Ann’s – a bit wavy. The girls always smile. They sometimes quarrel but after a moment they make up and everything is fine. They are both very good students, and they get really good marks, but they like different subjects. Merry loves foreign languages, especially French, but  Ann prefers Maths. But, other than that, they have a lot in common: both girls love doing sport, so which subject is their favourite? Can you guess?
In their free time they meet their best friends: Mike and Elza. The boy is tall and thin and he has got spiky hair. He is really funny and nice. He doesn’t get good marks at school, but his three friends often help him with difficult subjects. He dreams to be a famous footballer in the future, because he loves playing outside! He plays football really well! Elza has a beautiful smile, she has got dark hair and a fringe, which sometimes covers her big hazel eyes. She is very gifted: she likes singing, dancing and drawing. She spends a lot of time in her room creating beautiful pictures.
All four friends love animals: horses, cats, dogs and even parrots and many others.

Chapter 2
Let’s buy Elza a birthday present

Next Saturday is Elza’s birthday party! The children are looking forward to it! But before they go, they must go to shops and choose the best present for their friend, the present which Elza will remember and like. The friends (without Elza of course) decide to go to a clothes shop first. The shop assistant comes up to them and asks:
-         Can I help you?
-         Errr, we’re looking for something as a present for our best friend… - says Mike.
-         Oh, I understand. Do you think those trousers will suit him? – asks the lady.
The children start laughing loudly. This makes the shop assistant a bit embarrassed and confused. She says:
-         What’s so funny?
-         Because our friend is a girl, not a boy! Hehe – answers Ann.
-         Oh, I see. This is funny. So let’s see what we’ve got here…
The lady shows the children a lot of cool clothes. They can now choose the best present.
-         Hey, look, this checked skirt is very nice! – says Merry – have you got a smaller size?
-         Well, I’m afraid we’re sold out. I’m sorry. Choose something else. Don’t you like this spotted dress over there? – asks the lady.
-         Wow! It’s great! Can we take it?
-         Of course, you can – the woman smiles broadly.
The friends go to the counter to pay for the beautiful dress.
-         It is 25 pounds – says the shop assistant.
-         Oh, dear! We can’t afford it! We only have 15 pounds. We must go to another shop then.
The children leave the shop. They are very sad, because this beautiful dress is too expensive and they can’t buy it. They know Elza likes reading so they decide to enter a bookshop. They look for a gripping novel for Elza.
-         Girls, come here quickly! There’s a book about dances from all over the world. And it isn’t expensive. – says Mike.
-         How much is it?
-         13 pounds. Let’s take it, shall we?
-         Of course! Elza will like it a lot!
The friends are very tired, but at the same time, happy, because they finally have the present.
-         My stomach is rumbling. Let’s go home! – says Mike.
-         Good idea – add the girls.

Chapter 3.
Elza’s birthday party

It’s Saturday morning! Elza is very happy today. She gets up early and goes upstairs to the kitchen. Her mum prepares a cake with 11 candles.
-         Do you like it, Elza? – she asks.
-         Yes, I do! I’m looking forward to the party! And my guests! And my presents!
-         Can you help me, Sweetheart?
-         With pleasure!
-         So, lay the table in the living room and dust the furniture, all right?
-         Yes, Mum.
Elza helps her mum and waits for her friends. They finally come. Elza’s family and guests go to the living room and sing “Happy Birthday to you”. Elza makes a wish and blows out the candles. Her friends give her a gift. The girl opens it and is very happy because she gets a very interesting book.
-         Thank you!
-         You’re welcome! Many happy returns!
Then all gather around the table and eat and drink. The children sing and dance and play together. Then the children go to Elza’s room. The girl’s room is very big. There is a bunk bed, a huge wardrobe and a desk. On the floor there is a colourful carpet, which is so soft! They play with her dolls, teddy bears and other toys. They talk and talk and laugh…
